Abstract

1,152,793. Protective arrangements. FUCHS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES (PTY.) Ltd. 10 March, 1967 [11 March, 1966], No. 11436/67. Heading H2K. In an earth leakage protective arrangement in which the signal from a core balance transformer 2 effects the operation of a relay 25, 26 through an amplifier and a trigger device, the " power " supply for the amplifier and device is derived from the main protected A.C. circuit through a capacitor 16 which functions as a voltage dropper. As shown, unbalance between the currents in the single turn primary windings 6, 7 of the transformer induces current in the secondary winding 4 which with a capacitor 9 forms a tuned circuit. The resulting signal is applied to the base of a transistor 10 to render it conductive and the output of the transistor acting through a current limiting resistor 19 triggers a silicon controlled rectifier 20 which conducts to energize the relay coil 25. The " power " supply for this circuit is obtained from the main supply conductors through conductors 14, 15. A shunt trip coil of a main circuit-breaker is connected in series with the line 15 so that when the relay closes its contacts 26 the shunt trip coil is fully energized and trips the circuit-breaker. A test winding 5 on the core-balance transformer is controlled by a switch 41.
