Abstract

1,151,926. Release liner. MINNESOTA MINING & MFG. CO. 24 June, 1966 [25 June, 1965], No. 28549/66. Heading B2E. [Also in Division B5] A release liner which is capable of being dry stripped from temporary adherent contact with an aggressively tacky pressure-sensitive adhesive material comprises a smooth flexible planar-rigid polyolefine film carrying on one or both of its film faces an inseparably bonded cured silicone polymer coating having a low adherency hydrophobic surface which is drystrippable from an aggressively tacky pressuresensitive adhesive material, the polyolefine film surface or surfaces having been activated to a state bondable to hydrophilic polar groups prior to being coated, the silicone coating or coatings having been heat cured in situ and having a composition such that it or they have become inseparably bonded to the activated polyolefin film surface or surfaces during heat curing. Specified polyolefines are isotactic polypropylene and linear or branched polyethylenes, which may be oriented, activation being effected by corona discharge or by flame treatment. The coating composition preferably comprises a volatile hydrocarbon solvent, a polyfunctional polydimethylsiloxane and a polyfunctional silane or siloxane as cross linking agent. The liner may be employed in roll form with a pigmented polyvinyl chloride film coated on both surfaces with a pressure-sensitive natural rubber adhesive.
