Abstract

115,103. Taylor, W. H., and Shaw, C. May 3, 1917. Separators. - Apparatus for separating water, oil, or impurities from steam &c. by causing it to traverse a tortuous passage formed by baffles in such a way that both its direction and its velocity are repeatedly changed comprises a chamber in which one or more vertical baffles are intercalated between inclined baffles and the moisture and impurities pass away immediately to a drain. As shown, a chamber a has inlet and outlet branches b, c and a series of inclined and vertical baffles d, c, f, forming with the walls of the chamber comparatively large and restricted passages a<1>, a<3>, a<6> and a<2>, a<4>, a<5> in which the velocity of (he fluid is diminished and increased respectively. The walls a<8>, e<2> are designed to prevent eddying and slope downwards to a receiving- chamber i, which the water, oil &c. enter through openings g, h, a drain-cock &c. being provided in the bottom i<1>. The baffle d has a gulley d<1> to conduct water &c. to the sides of the chamber, the baffle e has a lip e' to prevent water &c. from being carried over it, the opening h is covered by a projection j, and the outlet-branch c has an annular lip k to throw off water &c from its entrance. Tapped holes for the attachment of a water gauge are provided in the chamber wall.
