Abstract

In coupling means, for coupling together at least three crank-shafts, comprising a gyratable structure having journal bearings 12, 14a, 14b, 14c and 14d, each complementary to a crank, compensating means responsive to changes in spacing of the journal bearings are provided comprising Z-shaped links 13a, 13b, 13c and 13d pivotally mounted on central portions 10a, 10b and connected to each other by links 16, 17, 18 and 19. In a modification, links 17, 19 are omitted. In another modification, a coupling structure 20, Fig. 3, has four journal bearings 21, 22, 23, 24 for cranks, and a central journal bearing 25 for a crank on a common output shaft. Each journal bearing comprises three concentric bushes freely rotatable in the coupling member and separated by lubricant under pressure. In a further modification, each bearing comprises an inner ring and an outer ring separated by a spiral of several convolutions of comparatively thin material. Preferably the inner and outer rings are coupled to prevent relative rotation.
