Abstract

1,150,379. Seats. V. A. SHERIDAN. 27 Nov., 1967 [20 Dec., 1966], No. 56883/66. Heading A4J. In an invalid chair, which assists the occupant to rise to the standing position, a seat part of box construction includes padded arm-rests 10 along the tops of its side walls 7 and is movably carried on crossed links 11, 12. Reversing switch 36 energizes electric motor 31, having a screw-threaded shaft 28, 32 operating the links 11, 12 through nut 27. In another form, a bellows (39, Fig. 4, not shown) is arranged to lift the seat part and is inflated from a source of compressed air controlled by a valve (40). A hand or motor driven air pump may alternatively be used for the bellows.
