1,150,062. Tensioning bolts or studs. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 2 Aug., 1968 [1 Sept., 1965], No. 37356/65. Heading F2H. [Also in Division G1] Two parts of a pressure casing are clamped together by a multiplicity of bolts or studs 13 and retaining nuts 29, the bolts or studs being pre-tensioned by screwing down the jacking screws 53 provided in a nut 37 threaded on to the end 19 of the bolt or stud, and, on reaching a predetermined tension, indicated by a dial micrometer (71, Fig. 1, not shown), taking the slack up with the retaining nuts. A flanged sleeve 31 supports each nut 37. The jacking screws 53 each act upon a steel plunger 51, a P.T.F.E. disc 49, a rubber plug 47, a rubber ring 41, a nylon ring 43 and a brass seating ring 43A provided in each nut 37.
