Abstract

1,149,524. Drying tobacco. K. KÍRBER. 19 July, 1966 [22 July, 1965], No. 31264/65. Heading F4G. In apparatus for drying tobacco or other fibrous material, the material is conveyed from one end of a rotary drying drum 2 to the other, into which drum hot air is supplied from both ends and from an intermediate region thereof moist air is withdrawn. The drum is slightly inclined to the horizontal and has a perforated wall 84 in the intermediate region over which a displaceable cover ring 64 is mounted leading to a common collecting pipe 68 for the moist air. Separate sources of hot air are provided for each end of the drum which are controlled by weighing or moisture detecting devices, the control devices including stage controls arranged to operate by reference to a standard value.
