Abstract

1,148,957. Automatic circuit breakers. SQUARE D CO. 6 June, 1967 [29 June, 1966], No. 25970/67. Heading H1N. A multi-pole circuit breaker includes an airgap adjusting cross-bar 29 for controlling the position of each of the armatures 72 with respect to its associated core member 67. The cross-bar 29 is pivotally mounted in brackets 70 and has three screws 76, one in each pole space, engaging actuating members 73 mounted on armature rods 71 carrying the armatures 72. Upon severe overload current through a terminal strap 62 the core 67 attracts its armature 72 and the actuating member 73 pivots a trip bar 57, thereby releasing an intermediate latch member 54 and a trip lever 34 to effect movement of the contacts 48 in all three poles to open position. Moderate overload current through the terminal strap 62 and a heating strip 65 causes heating of a bi-metallic strip 64, the free end of which engages the trip bar 57 to pivot it and cause opening of contacts 48. A screwdriver is used to rotate a control member 28 bearing a cam 78 which co-operates with and pivotally adjusts the air-gap adjusting cross-bar 29. The operating mechanism is as in Specification 1,094,377.
