Abstract

1,148,865. Electrolytically producing electrodes for electrolysis. CESKOSLOVENSKA AKADEMIE VED. April 29, 1966 [May 7, 1965], No.18941/66. Heading C7B. Ni and Ni / Al alloy are deposited on to a Cu coated steel sheet by employing the sheet as cathode in a bath containing a dissolved Ni compound and dispersed finely divided Ni/Al alloy. Al is then leached from the deposit with heated NaOH solution to form an activated electrode suitable for use in the electrolytic production of gases. The deposition bath contains NiSO 4 , NiCl 2 , H 3 BO 3 , hexyl alcohol and Ni/Al alloy having a particle size of 1 to 20 microns. The leaching is with 20% NaOH solution at 90‹C. Electrodes so produced can be used in the simultaneous production of Cl 2 and alkali metal carbonates.
