Abstract

[Also in Divisions A4 and E1] A connector for tubes is made of resilient flexible material and comprises a base 21 and at least two insert portions adapted to be inserted into the ends of the tubes, each insert portion having two parallel prongs 22. The faces of each prong which engage the tube taper first outwardly and then inwardly and a groove 29 or a ridge is formed between the tapers. A connector comprising a single insert portion (Figs. 3, 4) may be secured to the connector of Fig. 1, by means of a screw passed through axial bores in the single connector and screwed into a threaded hole 30 in the double connector. A single connector may also be secured at right angles to a tube by a screw screwed into a threaded hole in the tube (Figs. 16A, 16B, 16C). The tubes are of rectangular section and have grooves (52, Fig. 6) or flanges (Figs. 7 . . . 12, 13) on their outer surfaces. The flanges are adapted to support plates and may have hooks at their ends for retaining sealing tapes. Plates are secured to the tubes by means of channel shaped clips pressed between the plates and the flanges.
