Abstract
1,148,068. Steel wool laminate. STEPHENSON, MILLS Ltd. 21 Sept., 1966 [18 Nov., 1965], No. 49016/65. Heading B5N. [Also in Divisions A4, B3 and D1] Steel wool comprises strands or fibres which are provided with a pliable protective coating of natural rubber, natural or synthetic resin or a mixture thereof and are bonded together by the coating at the intersection points of the strands or fibres. Several layers of steel wool in the form of fleece, lap or sliver are formed into strip by feeding the layers between rolls 31 for preliminary cohesion and thereafter between spray heads 32, which apply the elastomer. The strip then passes through a drying stage 33, wherein the elastomer is partly cured, before compression to final thickness between rolls 34. Curing is completed in a drying stage 35 and the strip is coiled on a reel 36 or further manipulated to make a required article.
