Abstract

1,146,852. Cine-projector. BELL & HOWELL CO. March 14, 1966 [March 12, 1965], No. 11034/66. Heading G2E. A cine-projector for use with a magazine containing a plurality of spools has indexing means for aligning one of the spools with a film guide path comprising a projection station, means for automatically stopping the film at the end of projection, while one end of the film remains in the magazine and for automatically rewinding the film. As shown, a magazine 12 containing spools 52 is movable on a rod 170 by a spring (188) and has teeth which are engaged by a solenoid operated escapment mechanism for indexing each spool in the projection position in turn. Film 22 is automatically fed from the operative spool by a roller 120 driven by a motor 34 through a slot in a magazine support plate 18, an "S" shaped path defined by movable members 40, 42, a guide path 18 and a film gate (58) and on to a take-up spool 26. The leading end of the film actuates a sensor 334 which stops spool 52 being driven and then causes the film to be transported intermittently past a projection shutter tooth (78) on a pivoted shuttle drive 80 (Fig. 11, not shown). The trailing end of the film is fixed to the spool by a shock-absorber (209) (Figs. 5, 7 and 8, not shown) consisting of a flat spring which is clipped on to the end of the film and arranged between adjacent spokes (205) of the spool hub, so that when the film has been completely unwound it becomes taut and pivots member 42 which actuates a sensor 48 which in turn, causes the film to be rewound. Fast rewind is effected by pivoting a solenoid-controlled plate (275) which simultaneously (a) pivots the film gate (58) away from the film, (b) engages a wheel 84 of a shaft (86) causing the shuttle tooth (78) to be moved out of the film path (c) moves a side guide (63) by way of a pusher 299 of a plate 299 to widen the film path 36, and (d) causes clutch plates (93), (102) to be contacted thus coupling motor 34 and roller 120. Provision is also made for normal speed rewind. When the rewind is complete, the magazine is automatically indexed through one position and the next film projected. There is also provided a switch (312) which prevents operation if no magazine is loaded in the projector, a lamp-housing cooling fan operated by motor 34, and a manual advance wheel 84.
