Abstract

1,146,478. Silver bleach solution. EASTMAN KODAK CO. June 14, 1966 [June 14, 1965], No. 26560/66. Heading G2C. Photographic silver images are bleached by a solution containing 5 to 200 g.1<SP>-1</SP> of a water-soluble ferricyanide and up to 100 g.1<SP>-1</SP> of a buffer which is phosphorous acid or a salt thereof, or maleic acid or a salt thereof. The salts are preferably derived from an alkali metal or ammonium ion. The solution preferably also contains a silver halide complexing agent (e. g. and alkali-metal thiocyanate or thiosulphate, ferric thiocyanate or dithiosuberic acid), and may also contain an alkali-metal halide, glycol monohexyl ether, potassium ferrocyanide potassium persulphate, alkali-metal nitrates, boric anhydride, borax, citric acid, monosodium phosphate, phosphoric acid or an alkali-metal hexametaphosphate. The ferricyanide may be prepared in situ by the reaction of a ferrocyanide and a persulphate.
