Abstract
1,144,514. Programmer for a washing machine. CROUZET S.r.I. 15 Nov., 1966 [24 Dec., 1965], No. 51135/66. Heading H1N. [Also in Division Dl] A programme device for a drum type washing machine comprises a cam 5 for reversing the drum driven continuously from a motor shaft 7 through a pinion 6 co-operating with cam-teeth 5b, and having tracks 5a controlling contacts, and a plastics integrally moulded cam 8 controlling, e.g. filling, heating, emptying, which can be driven with a step-by-step movement from motor shaft 7 through an electromagnetic clutch coupling cams 5 and 8, and having tracks 8b controlling contacts such as 9. The clutch comprises a fixed coil 13 with leads 14 in a case 12, 15 of soft iron secured to a fixed cam shaft 4 with the interposition of a magnetic core 11, and a magnetic core 16 attached to a grooved plastics mandrel 17 with apertures I7a for receiving projections 5c of cam 5 to rotate therewith. When coil 13 is energized it attracts core 16 against a return spring 18 and grooves on mandrel 17 co-operate with internal teeth 8g on cam 8 to rotate the latter. Cam 8 is located in its switching positions by a crownwheel 19 rotating with earn 8 through projections 8d received in apertures 19a and co-operating with a fixed crown-wheel 21 against which it is biased by a spring 20. In a further form (Fig. 7) an additional cam (23) rotationally mounted on cam 5 is driven at a different speed through a pinion (24) co-operating with cam teeth (23b). In another form (Figs. 8, 9), an additional cam (25) is axially displaceable on shaft 4 through a manual push-button on a shaft 10, its two axial positions controlling different operations and being defined by a spring (26) on cam (25) engaging notches (4c) in shaft 4. Cam (25) rotates with cam 8 through projections 8d received in apertures (25f). Spacer columns 3 have a bore receiving a selftapping screw or a rivet for refixing after repair (Figs. 10-14). When a contact (C1, Fig. 15) is closed, the cam 5, closing a contact (C2) during every rotation, sends a short impulse to coil 13 and cam 8 is driven with a step-by-step movement. When a manual contact (C3, Fig. 15) is closed, cam 8 is driven with a continuous movement. When, during step-by-step movement, an interchangeable memory part of cam 8 closes a contact (C4, Fig. 15), cam 8 is driven with a continuous movement during the closure of this contact. The step-by-step movement is interrupted during the filling, heating and emptying processes, a pressure-stat (P, Fig. 15) and a selected thermostat (T1 or T2) initiating resumption of the step-by-step movement. During these processes, the motor current is uninterrupted. Cam (23, Fig. 17) can produce different time intervals by inter-connecting various selected contacts.
