Abstract

1,144,453. Polyimide containing laminates. E. I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. 28 June, 1966 [29 June, 1965], No. 28869/66. Heading B5N. [Also in Divisions F2 and H1] A method of making a laminate comprises laminating by heat and pressure a film of a polyimide to an adherable surface of a film of a copolymer comprising 95 to 50% by weight of tetrafluoroethylene and 5 to 50% by weight of hexafluoropropylene, and then heating the laminated films at 350‹ to 500‹ C. for at least one second. The adherable surface is formed by subjecting the copolymer film to an electrical discharge treatment preferably at a temperature of at least 50‹ C. An adhesion promoter, e.g. polyethylene imine, may be used. Preferred laminates made by the process comprise (a) copolymer film/polyimide film/copolymer film and (b) copolymer film/polyimide film/copolymer film/aluminium/copolymer film. The products may be used in the manufacture of spiral wrapped ducts and tubes and for the insulation of electrical conductors.
