Abstract

Plug couplings.-In the plug and socket coupling described in the parent Specification, both hands are necessary to effect the coupling, one to hold the cable and the other to slide the socket casing 8 (and the coned portion 7) with it backwards against the action of the spring 6 so as to free the jaws of the socket 3 and allow them to open to pass on to the spherical headed plug. According to the present invention, the sleeve member 5 is formed with bayonet slots 9 to be engaged by pins 10 on the inner ends of the jaws, as shown in Fig. 2, thereby opening the jaws so that the socket can be placed in position with one hand and the sleeve member thereupon rotated to release the jaws which clip the plug under the action of the spring 6. The pins 10 may be so arranged, in the position shown in Fig. 1, to lie above the end of the sleeve, and, when the socket is in position on the plug with the jaws gripping the plug, it may be locked there by rotating the sleeve slightly.
