Abstract
1,144,088. Cartridge-actuated tools. TORNADO G.m.b.H. 30 May, 1967, No. 24928/67. Heading B4C. A cartridge-actuated tool for driving fasteners, such as nails, 19, comprises a barrel 14 having a cartridge chamber 15 and slidably mounted in a sleeve 13 which is slidable in a casing 1, and a breech member 4 rigidly connected to a mass 8 adapted to assist in absorbing the recoil on firing. The sleeve 13 is provided with a guide member which permits sliding movement of the sleeve and the pivoting of the latter about pins 12 in order to load the tool. The breech member is loaded by a spring 9 and the barrel is held in a forward position by means of a spring-loaded pin 7. In operation, upon pressing the end of the barrel 14 against a workpiece the inner end of the barrel abuts a trigger 5 and so moves the breech member rearwardly against the action of the spring 9. Upon release of the trigger, the breech member moves forward rapidly so that a firing pin 6 strikes the cartridge. The explosive gases may act directly on the nail or via a plunger 18.
