Abstract

1,143,451. Coating apparatus. CONFORMING MATRIX CORP. 3 April, 1967 [16 May, 1966], No. 15110/67. Heading B2L. A spray painting fixture comprises a frame 30, 32 having a pair of inwardly directed parallel grooves 31 for slidably receiving the side edges of a spray mask 33 and having an abutment for limiting the rearward sliding movement of the mask in the grooves, and a spray mask 33 having parallel side edges which fit in the grooves and a depending flange 36 which extends along substantially the entire rear edge of the mask but terminates short of both side edges to permit the said edges to enter the grooves. The frame and the mask have corresponding locating holes for receiving pins for retaining the mask in position. The frame is located between side plates 25 (Fig. 1) supported on legs 10. The legs 10 also carry cross channel members 13 having secured thereto air cylinders 15 the pistons 16 of which support a work holder 17 that in turn carries a work-supporting platform 18 which can thus be raised into and lowered from a position in which a workpiece to be coated on the platform 18 is in engagement with the mask mounted in the locating frame. Aligning pins 45 on the holder 17 correctly align the workpiece with the masking frame by engagement in holes therein.
