Abstract

1,143,440. Dexamethasone aerosol composition for inhalation therapy. MERCK & CO., Inc. 21 July, 1966, No. 32863/66. Heading A5B. [Also in Division C4] An aerosol composition for inhalation therapy consists of 0.001-0.18% by wt. anhydrous disodium dexamethasone phosphate of 1-10Á particle size, 0.01-2% by wt. sorbitan trioleate as a dispersing agent, the balance of the composition, excluding additional medicaments optionally present in an amount up to 2% by wt., being a non-toxic liquid propellant having a vapour pressure of 15-70 p.s.i.g. at 70‹F. Specified propellants are fluorinated or fluorochlorinated C 1-4 saturated aliphatic hydrocarbons, or mixtures thereof. Other non- toxic propellants having a vapour pressure outside the above limits may be used in admixture with one or more propellants having a vapour pressure within the above range provided that the vapour pressure of such mixtures is within the above limits.
