Abstract
1,143,017. Mattresses. PRICE BROS. & CO. Ltd. 1 Dec., 1967 [19 Sept., 1966], No. 41711/66. Heading A4M. A divan bed includes a mattress 4 secured to a base 1 by stitching 10a, tufting 10b or press studs along a line (12) spaced inwardly of the peripheries of the mattress 4 and base 1, the mattress comprising a core of springs 5 or plastics foam provided on its major surfaces with layers 6a, 6b of webbing or wire lacing, hessian layers 7a, 7b, padding layers 8a, 8b and ticking or decorative layers 9a, 9b, and the lower padding layer 8b being of lesser thickness than, or different composition to, the upper padding layer 8a. The lower layer 8b may be of coir fibre and the upper layer of plastics foam or cotton felt. The mattress 4 is secured to a cover 11 tacked, at 13, to the underside of slats 3 of the base 1. The base 1 may comprise springs, resilient foam, resilient webbing or a wire matrix. The inward disposition of the securing line (12) provides a tuck-in space for bed clothes.
