Abstract

1,142,885. Brake arrangement and disposition. KIRKSTALL FORGE ENG. Ltd., and P. SELLORS. 24 Aug., 1967 [26 Aug., 1966], No. 38328/66. Heading B7H. A heavy vehicle has front wheel air brakes including a compressed air chamber 20 mounted on the swivelling stub axle assembly 11 at an acute angle, e.g. 10 degrees, to the plane of the adjacent front wheel, 16, and acts through an operating rod 21 connected by a spherical joint 26 to a brake arm 19. The brake arm 19 acts through a shaft 17 and cams (not shown), upon brake shoes (not shown) within the brake drum 15. The brake assembly includes a dust cover 121. The compressed air chamber 20 is mounted upon a bracket 22 on the top of the upper yoke member 13 of the swivelling stub axle assembly 11. The connection between the operating rod 21 and arm 19 includes a transverse pin 25 fitting in a bush 26 with a spherical outer surface which fits in a complementary bush 27 in the upper end of the brake arm.
