Abstract

1,142,109. Estrus block in animals. PHYTOGEN PRODUCTS, Inc. 15 Aug., 1967 [16 Aug., 1966], No. 37513/67. Heading A5B. An estrus block and enhancement technique comprises surgically inserting into a female domestic animal an implant of a medicament whose pharmacological action blocks occurrence of estrus, leaving the implant in the animal to continuously release medicament for about 14-18 days, the implant being adapted to release medicament continuously for at least 18 days and then surgically removing the implant whereby a rebound phenomena enhances estrus and onset of estrum occurs in a further 2-7 days. Suitable medicament for use in the implant include progestins, stilbesterol and related stilbene compounds and various named steroids. A depot adapted for subcutaneous implant purposes comprises an estrus-blocking medicament compounded with inert diluent and formed into a multilayer pellet with the medicament present only in the outermost layer of the pellet and at least one core layer containing only inert diluent.
