Abstract

1,141,971. Stabilizing poly vinylchloride. W.R. GRACE & CO. 23 May, 1967 [31 May, 1966; 2 Dec., 1966], No. 23959/67. Heading C3P. Chlorine-containing polymers such as PVC are stabilized by the addition of 0À01-5% of a chelate of the formula in which each R and R<SP>1</SP> is the same or different and is hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxy, phenyl, or phenoxy. Preferably an orthoester is also present, a large number, some containing sulphur, being specified-in the examples glyceryl orthoacetate is used, and/or an epoxide such as epoxidized soybean oil. Also present in some examples are cetyl alcohol, stearic acid trinonylphenyl phosphite, calcium stearate, sorbitol and an acrylic processing aid. Two chelates are exemplified, zinc acetylacetonate and zinc ethylacetoacetate.
