Abstract

A breechblock 1 for an automatic weapon comprises a displacement chamber 20 containing spherical displacement means and movable within the chamber two displacement bodies 18, 19 which are carried by driving pins 16, 17 respectively. One of the driving pins projects from the rear of the breechblock 1 and is spring- loaded to its rearward position. The body 18 is asymmetrical such that forward movement thereof is more damped than rearward movement. The other driving pin is provided with a notch 24 with which co-operates a shoulder 8 of the breechblock head 7, the shoulder 8 also working in a recess 9 in the breechblock carrier 2 to limit the movement of the head 7. A bore in the breechblock head and carrier houses a firing pin (Fig. 1, not shown), and a concentric control member 11, the control member 11 urging rollers 12 outwardly to lock the breechblock head at each shot. The displacement chamber 20 may be substantially oval in crosssection (Fig. 3, not shown). The assembly is also provided with a closing spring (Fig. 1, not shown). On recoil of the breechblock the rear end of the pin 16 co-operates with a well 6 forming part of the weapon housing.
