Abstract

1,140,111. Railway vehicle brakes. BECORIT GRUBENAUSBAU G.m.b.H. 17 June, 1966 [26 June, 1965], No. 27058/66. Headings F2E and F2F. A railway vehicle is provided with brakes 17 which are actuated by a speed-responsive device when the vehicle has reached a predetermined speed. The device is operated by a wheel which is urged against a rail as by a spring, the wheel having no significant part of the weight of the vehicle acting thereon (Figs. 1, 2, not shown). The device comprises a variable spring- loaded toggle assembly 39, 43, 44, 45, 46, 47 having a block 40 intermediate its ends. The device is mounted on a shaft 36 which is counterbalanced by a member 56. When the predetermined speed has been reached the toggle assembly passes through a dead centre position to a brake actuating position (chain dotted lines) wherein it strikes a lever 48 of a trip member to open a pressure release valve 34 and vent the brake cylinder, the brakes then being applied by a pair of spring assemblies 28 in each brake cylinder. The brakes are urged to their inoperative position, indicated by a channel 53 on a piston guide rod 26 by hydraulic fluid pressure supplied by a pump 30. The device may comprise a clutch arrangement which is operated at the predetermined speed (Fig. 1, not shown).
