Abstract

1,140,014. Carbamic acid esters. AMERICAN HOME PRODUCTS CORP. 2 Feb., 1967 [21 Feb., 1966], No. 5097/67. Heading C2C. Novel compounds of formula in which R<SP>1</SP> is a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl radical are prepared by acylating an alcohol of formula The alcohols of the above formula may be prepared by condensing an aldehyde of formula (CH 3 ) 2 CHCHO with a tertiary monoalkylamine, reacting the imine formed with a Grignard reagent and then with a halide of formula R<SP>1</SP>CR 2 X, acidifying the product to obtain an aldehyde of formula and reducing the aldehyde. Therapeutic compositions having activity as central nervous system depressants, anticonvulsants and analgesics, which may be administered orally or parenterally contain as active ingredient the carbamates of the first formula given above.
