Abstract

1,138,368. Semi-conductor devices. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. 27 May, 1966 [4 June, 1965], No. 24009/65. Heading H1K. A diode unit comprises a cup shaped conductive housing 11 having an internal peripheral shoulder 12, a PN wafer 13 soldered to the base of the housing and sealed with silicone rubber 15, a conductive lead 14 connected to the wafer and extending out of the housing through a brass sleeve 16, and an annular insulating member 17 made of glass or ceramic material which is secured to the sleeve 16 and is retained in engagement with the shoulder 12 by a deformed peripheral portion 21 of the housing. The lead 14 may have a flexible portion between the rubber 15 and the member 17 to allow for expansion, and the housing may be mounted in a hole in a heat sink on an alternator.
