Abstract
1,138,259. Automatic exchange systems. INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP. 14 July, 1967 [21 July, 1966], No. 32465/67. Heading H4K. In multifrequency code-signalling, e.g. between exchanges, pairs of digits are transmitted simultaneously, one in a 2-out-of-5 code, the other in a 2-out-of-6 code, 11 frequencies being employed in all. There are thus 5 surplus frequency pairs available in the second group, and these may be used in combination with 2 frequencies of the first group for supervisory and other special purposes. When signals are sent in immediate succession, as in the arrangement of Specification 1,030,188, a 4-frequency repetition signal is sent when a pair of digits are repeated. Also, when an odd number of digits are to be sent, the single final digit is supplemented by a surplus frequency pair from the second group.
