Abstract
1,137,227. Printing processes. RANK XEROX Ltd. 27 June, 1966 [1 July, 1965], No. 28666/66. Heading B6C. [Also in Divisions B3, G1 and G2] In apparatus for fusing a thermoplastic resin powder image on a support material comprising a pressure roller and a fuser roller containing a heating element, a method of bonding a polymer of a fluorinated hydrocarbon to the copper or oxidizable copper alloy fuser roller comprises applying a coating to the roller to prevent the formation of loose particles of cupric oxide when the roller is heated, and then applying the polymer to the coating. The coating may be of nickel or cupric oxide and the polymer a tetrafluoroethylene resin, e.g. that known under the registered Trade Mark Teflon. In the example, the polymer is applied to a heating roller suitable for use in the xerographic fusing device of Specification 1,122,628, the copper or copper alloy roller having stainless steel end caps (11, 12), Fig. 3 (not shown), silver soldered to the roller.
