Abstract

1,136,285. Ventilated livestock box. ASHTON CONTAINERS Ltd. 6 March, 1967 [30 June, 1966], No. 29367/66. Heading B8P. A box for chicks &c. is provided with partitioning and is ventilated through spaces defined between adjacent compartments (if more than one) and between compartments and the side walls of the box, the box base having at least one aperture, e.g. 75 in at least one o the spaces, extending up to the partitioning, which is fastened to the box base at the periphery of the aperture. As described, two inserts each defining two octagonal compartments are each erected from a blank illustrated in Fig. 3 (not shown). They are placed in a tray-like container having sides 11, 12 and are secured by staples 20. The tray is held erect by tabs 17, (18), (see Figs. 1 and 4 not shown). By cutting back four triangular flaps (23-26) the aperture 75 is formed, the flaps being stapled to the walls, e.g. 60, 80 of the partitions. A lid, shown inverted in Fig. 5, is formed from a blank, Fig. 2 (not shown) and is secured to the box by tongues 42 engaging in slots 16. To facilitate ventilation during stacking, the lid has supporting elements 41 to leave a space between adjacent containers; similarly, the walls 11, 12 are made converging to facilitate air flow between adjacent containers in a layer.
