Abstract
1,135,954. Ammonium and sodium salts of glutamic acid. AJINOMOTO CO. Inc. 17 Dec., 1965 [17 ‹Dec., 1964], No. 53675/65. Heading C2C. Monoammonium glutamate is obtained from a glutamic acid fermentation broth containing ammonium ions as its main cationic content by concentrating said broth to the extent of saturation or supersaturation with respect to the monoammonium glutamate dissolved therein, adding between 0À5 and 50% by weight (based on the concentrated broth) of monoammonium glutamate seed crystals and crystallizing out the resulting monoammonium glutamate at a temperature of from 30‹ C. to below 105‹ C. The yield of monoammonium glutamate crystals may be further improved by the addition of ammonium chloride or sulphate to the concentrated broth. If desired the resulting monoammonium glutamate may be converted to monosodium glutamate by treatment with sodium hydroxide or a sodium salt.
