Abstract
1,135,812. Production of iron nitride. IM. PERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 6 Jan., 1967 [8 Feb., 1966], No. 5475/66. Heading C1A. Iron oxide, in the form of porous lumps, is converted to iron nitride which substantially retains the original shape and size of the iron oxide. Any oxide of iron may be used, ferric oxide being particularly convenient, and the size of the lumps is preferably 0À5 to 4 inches. The preferable reaction for the conversion comprises passing a hydrogen and ammonia mixture over the heated iron oxide.
