Abstract

1,135,662. Securing reels on cores. H. H. ROSS. 10 March, 1967 [10 March, 1966], No. 10504/66. Heading F2U. [Also in Division D1] A core 10 suitable for rotatably driving a tape reel 26 is characterized by having a recessed face 40 in its periphery shaped to define a narrowing gap with the tape reel bore 27. A circular sectioned member 41 is held captive on the recessed face, but is movable therealong and has a diameter greater than the maximum depth of the recess. The circular sectioned member 41 can be a cylindrical roller or ball bearing made of an elastomeric material. The roller 41 can be held captive by a stirrup 15 loosely encircling pins 45 on the sides of the core, or by a roller cage. In use, see Fig. 1, not shown, the core 10 is driven and the roller jams in a narrow part of the gap.
