Abstract
113,465. Western D e n t a l Manufacturing Co., and Osborn, H. Feb. 16, 1917. Chucks.-A dental hand-piece of the kind comprising a double cone clutch for the tool shank and a stepped ramp movable lengthwise of the hand-piece and co-acting with an L-shaped lever to operate the said clutch, is provided with a rotary shaft not slidable lengthwise of the casing and with a ramp adapted to be slidden relatively to the shaft by independent means arranged outside the casing. The complete shaft comprises a barrel portion b screwed at d<1> to a shaft d formed with a chamber h to accommodate a pivoted L-shaped lever f and a ramp i. The shaft is mounted in conical bearings at either end of the casing k. The ramp i is attached to a ring j slidable on and rotating with the shaft and controlled from a ring o mounted outside the casing and fitted with screws p passing through slots q in the casing to a peripheral grooove j<1> on the inner ring j. The ramp when pulled downwards operates the lever f which in turn forces upwards the distance piece g and cone c so as to cause the clutch member a to grip the tool.
