Abstract
1,133,813. Coated metal tubes. METALLGESELLSCHAFT A.G. 19 June, 1967 [25 Feb., 1967], No. 28243/67. Heading B2K. The inside surface of a metal tube e.g. a steel tube, is coated with plastics material by filling the tube with plastics material in powder form, inductively heating the tube until a powder layer of the desired thickness has sintered onto the inside wall of the tube, removing surplus plastics powder from the tube and then inductively reheating the tube whereby the sintered layer is fused and smoothed to a uniform homogeneous coating. The tube may be closed at each end by end closure means after having been filled] with the plastics powder, the tube inductively heated by passing it through an induction coil, the surplus powder emptied into a storage container by the removal of the end closure means, and the tube inductively reheated by passing it through one or more induction coils. The temperature generated by the second inductive heating is 20 to 80‹C. above the temperature attained during the first inductive heating, which may be from 150 to 350‹C. The plastics material may be polyamide, e.g. poly undecanamide, or phenol-formaldehyde.
