Abstract

1,133,471. Spray-producers. W. A. SMITH. 27 July, 1966 [12 May, 1965], No. 19961/65. Heading B2F. A spray gun suitable for discharging paint, concrete or powdered material comprises a discharge chamber 32 containing a cylindrical slide valve member 38 which is actuated by a trigger 28 so as to slide transversely across a spray material inlet port 46 and thereby control the discharge of the material from the gun. The trigger also actuates a valve 26 which controls the supply of compressed air to an annular orifice 31 concentric with a bore 34 connecting the chamber 32 and the gun nozzle 20. The valves 26 and 38 are spring- loaded into the closed position and the valve 38 is a close fit in the chamber 32 and performs a self-cleaning action in the gun. Paint &c. may be supplied under the pressure of compressed air to the port 46. The gun depicted in fig. 3 (not shown) is adapted to spray a liquid or a powdered material supplied by a hopper (82). Liquids are atomized by compressed air supplied to at least one orifice (75) in the discharge nozzle (70). Powders are discharged by removing a plug (106) and supplying the compressed air to a duct (102) instead of to the orifice (75). The hopper (82) is designed to allow the gun to the tilted during spraying.
