Abstract

1,132,686. Helmets. FIBRE-METAL PRODUCTS CO. 11 May, 1967 [9 Dec., 1966], No. 21854/67. Heading A3V. A helmet 20 consists of a rigid shell 21 and a cradle 22 which supports the shell 21 in spaced relationship to the wearer's head. The cradle 22 consists of a sheet of flexible yieldable material, e.g. plastics material, having downwardly extending extensions 51, 52, 53, 54, 55, 56. The extensions 51, 53, 54, 56 are detachably secured to the shell 21 by projections 60 on the extensions engaging in sockets 34 on the shell 21 and the extensions 52, 55 are attached to a headband 72 by headed pins 75. The cradle 22 has cutouts 67, 68, 69 and has a plurality of apertures arranged in concentric annular arrays over its surface to increase its flexibility and to provide ventilation. The shell 21 may be provided with a peak 26, a gutter 29 and reinforcing ribs 30, 31 along its rear and side edges.
