Abstract
1,131,436. Workmen's time recorder. SIMPLEX TIME RECORDER CO. 21 March, 1966 [21 July, 1965], No. 12324/66. Heading G4T. A workmen's time recorder includes a first slot for receiving a workman's time-card and a second slot for receiving a workman's identity card (called a " badge ") and is characterized in that in addition to time stamping the timecard in the usual way it also produces, for subsequent use in an automatic accounting system, a punched paper tape record of the workman's identity, obtained by sensing his badge, the time of day and the day of the week, obtained by counting pulses produced by the clock, the number of the workman's shift and an on-duty/off-duty indication, obtained from keys depressed by the workman, and the identity of the recorder itself, obtained from preset switches in the recorder. The workman's badge comprises a card, Fig. 10, punched in accordance with his identity. It is sensed by mechanical feelers by conventional equipment (Figs. 11 to 13, not shown). The time of day is printed on the time-card in hours and minutes, but on the paper tape it is recorded as hours and decimals of hours. Conversion from minutes to decimals of an hour is achieved approximately by counting pulses that occur at a frequency of 1 per minute in a counter formed from two 10-position stepping switches and correcting the count to 0À75 at 45 minutes past each hour.
