Abstract
1,131,402. Gas-blast switches. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 22 Feb., 1966 [23 Feb., 1965], No. 7688/66. Heading H1N. In a circuit-breaker having main contacts 16, 28 shunted by resistors (70), Fig. 1 (not shown), in series with auxiliary contacts 76, 78, similar to that of Specification 987,869, the moving contacts 78 are resiliently attached to arms 82 pivoted at 80 and held closed by latches 98. To open, fluid is applied to a piston 171 whereby a rod 52 is pulled downwards through linkage 152 . . . 156. Movement of the rod 52 opens a pilot valve (51), Fig. 1 (not shown), which supplies air to an operating cylinder for the main contacts which are linked to a crosshead 59 which is moved down and latched at 55. Rod 52 is also connected to a rod 95 which is moved upwards to rotate a cam 122 counter-clockwise to release a lever 125 which, under the action of a spring 118, rotates clockwise and withdraws latch 98 via links 113, 114 and a pin and slot 114a. The auxiliary contacts are thus opened by a pair of springs. Link 154 becomes latched at 140, and to close, this latch is tripped, so that rod 52 is moved upwards by springs 130, 173. Downward movement of rod 95 results and this causes clockwise movement of a cam 91 which bears on arm 82 to close the auxiliary contacts against the action of springs. Also, a rod 165 is pushed up to cause latch 55 to release the cross-bar 59, so that the main contacts can be closed by the air pressure in an enclosing tank (12). Several rods 95 of a multiple seriesbreak arrangement, or of a polyphase arrangement, can be linked together for simultaneous operation of all the auxiliary contacts.
