Abstract

1,131,336. Sheet delivering apparatus. WEST VIRGINIA PULP & PAPER CO. 24 Aug., 1966 [21 Oct., 1965], No. 38069/66. Heading B6H. Sheet collecting and transferring mechanism is provided with a foraminous honeycomb rotary cylinder 14 having its open surface formed from metal strips 44, 46, Fig. 2, and co-operating with an endless belt 22 to define a pocket between which is received a batch of four sheets 16 in aligned, superposed manner as the sheets which are delivered by superposed endless belts 10, 12 have their leading edges deflected in timed relationship by air blast from a pair of nozzle pipes 18, 19. When the leading edge of a fifth sheet 16 is aligned with the leading edges of the batched sheets on the cylinder 14 the batch of five sheets is stripped off the cylinder by air blast from nozzle pipe 38 and the formed batch is advanced to a stack (not shown) by endless conveyers 10, 40, 42. Endless belts 10, 12 and cylinder 14 move at constant equal respective linear and peripheral speeds to prevent scratching of the surface of the sheets and endless belts 40, 42 are moved at differential speeds varying from the peripheral speed of the cylinder 14 to a set slow speed in front of the stack. Belts 40, 42 are then accelerated to the peripheral speed of the cylinder. Air blast through pipes 18, 19 and pipe 19 is controlled by a rotary valve comprising a valve plate 74 executing one revolution for every five revolutions of the cylinder 14 and includes four equally spaced valve ports 170, 173 for the consecutive actuation of the nozzle pipes 18, 19 in coincidenec with the arrival of the leading edges of the four sheets to be batched and a valve port 174 spaced radially inwardly with respect to valve ports 170 . . . 173 for actuation of nozzle pipe 38 in response to registered arrival of the leading edge of the fifth sheet.
