Abstract
1,131,006. Polyurethanes. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 10 May, 1967 [11 May, 1966], No. 21771/67. Heading C3R. [Also in Division D1] Compositions suitable for use in the treatment of synthetic textile materials comprises a solution or dispersion containing a product carrying isocyanate groups, or a bisulphite addition compound thereof, obtained by reacting an aliphatic di- or polyisocyanate with a compound carrying at least two free hydroxyl groups per molecule and having a molecular weight of 500-10,000. The aliphatic di- or polyisocyanate may be ethylene diisocyanate, tetramethylene diisocyanate, hexamethylene diisocyanate, 1,4 - cyclohexane - diisocyanate, 4,4<SP>1 </SP>- dicyclohexyl methane diisocyanate, thiodipropyl #,#<SP>1</SP>, - diisocyanate and the triisocyanate of the formula obtained by the reaction of 3 mols of hexamethylene diisocyanate with 1 mol of water. Suitable compounds carrying at least two hydroxyl groups and having a molecular weight of 500-10,000 are polyethylene glycols, polypropylene glycols, poly-butylene glycols, polyhexylene glycols, polyxylene glycols, polyglycerine, the reaction products of ethylene oxide and/or propylene oxide with xylene glycol, trimethylolpropane or butylamine, polythioethers prepared by the condensation of thiodiglycol with itself or with ethylene glycol, polyethylene glycols, neopentyl glycol or glycerol or by the action of ethylene oxide and/or propylene oxide on thiodiglycol, polyesters obtained by the reaction of succinic, adipic sebacic, maleic, malic, tricarballylic, phthalic, trimellitic or pyromellitic acid with ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, propylene glycol, butylene glycol, hexane-1,6-diol neopentyl glycol, xylylene glycol, glycerine or trimethylol propane. Products containing isocyanate groups prepared by reacting di- or polyisocyanates with mixtures, compounds of molecular weight 500-10,000 carrying at least two hydroxyl groups and compounds of molecular weight below 500 carrying at least two hydroxyl groups, e.g. ethylene glycol, di-ethylene glycol, tetraethylene glycol or propylene glycol, may be used. The compositions may comprise solutions of the products in organic solvents, e.g. acetone, ethyl or propyl acetate or dimethyl formamide, aqueous dispersions of the products or aqueous solutions of their bisulphite addition products. The compositions may also contain products containing isocyanate groups formed by the reaction of aliphatic di- or polyisocyanates or aromatic di- or polyisocyanates, e.g. toluylene diisocyanate, diphenylmethane 4,4<SP>1 </SP>- diisocyanate, triphenylmethane 4,4<SP>1</SP>,4<SP>11</SP>-triisocyanate or naphthylene diisocyanate (1,5) with compounds of molecular weight below 500 carrying at least two hydroxyl groups, e.g. ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, tetraethylene glycol and propylene glycol, and low aliphatic polyhydric alcohols, e.g. ethylene glycol, glycerine, neopentyl glycol, tetraethylene glycol and hexapropylene glycol.
