Abstract

1,130,490. Flexible door closure device. R. L. KUSS & CO. Inc. 14 April, 1967 [21 Dec., 1966], No. 17285/67. Heading E2M. A flexible closure device for building openings is illustrated with reference to drawings and comprises a flexible membrane 10 secured at its upper edge to a substantially horizontal building member 11 above such opening and has a substantially horizontal roller 12 extending across said opening and secured to the membrane whereby rotation of the roller will raise the roller as it winds the membrane thereupon, the device being characterized in that a toothed worm wheel 39 is coaxially secured to one end of the roller, a track 27 is adjacent one end of the roller and extends vertically between the uppermost and lowermost positions, a movable carriage member (plate 30) is slid'ably guided by the track (by rolling guides 31, 32, 33, 34) and has the roller rotatably attached for vertical movement therewith, a worm 40 is journaled upon the movable carriage and engages with the toothed worm wheel whereby movement of the roller and worm requires rotation of the worm and whereby rotation of the worm will turn the worm wheel and roller to wind the membrane upon the roller, a drive sprocket 44 (or pulley) being secured to the worm and means including a vertically extending chain 57 (or rope) drive coacting with the drive sprocket whereby, when the chain is driven in one direction, the drive sprocket and worm and worm wheel will rotate to cause the carriage and the roller to rise as the roller winds the membrane upon itself.
