Abstract

1,130,470. Magnetic moriogrammic signs. FERRANTI Ltd. 6 Oct., 1967 [4 Nov., 1966] No. 45627/67. Addition to 934,001. Heading G5C. In the monogrammic sign of the parent Specification, the means for creating a magnetic field for each rotatable indicating element 10 comprises a permanently magnetizable poleforming member 14 having at least two windings 16, 17. As described, energization of at least two windings is necessary to cause element 10 to rotate. Pole-face 15 is mounted near a ring magnet 13 integrally rotatable with element 10. In a second embodiment (Fig. 5, not shown) the elements are cylindrical and liquid-suspended, as in Specification 1,123,643. In Fig. 7, indicating element 66 is a cylinder or sphere in liquid suspension, and the coil arrangement comprises windings 74, 77 on concentric bosses 72, 76; the coil arrangement in Fig. 1 is similar. The devices form a cartesian network, selectable by energizing appropriate co-ordinate wires. Specification 1,027,955 is referred to.
