Abstract

1,129,392. Marking-machines; feeding foil. ADOLPH GOTTSCHO Inc. 2 Oct., 1965 [29 Oct., 1964], No. 28067/65. Headings B6F and B6J. A machine for marking an intermittently fed web W, Fig. 2, through a blocking foil T comprises a type holder 66 mounted on a heater block 60 containing electric heater elements 62 and carried on an insulating block 56 on the plunger 58 of a compressed air cylinder 54. A second cylinder 168 operates the foil feed during the upward stroke of the plunger 58. The machine is mounted in either of two directions by means of a clamp 26 on supporting bars 42 on which the clamp is adjustably secured, so that the foil feed may be transverse to or parallel to the web feed. The printing stroke is synchronized with the web feed so that the web is stationary during printing. Feeding foil.-The foil is pulled off a supply spool 94, Figs. 1 and 2, by a roller 96 keyed to a shaft 100 and co-operating with a spring- biased presser roller 104, inverted over turning plates 122, 124 one on either side of the printing station, drawn over the printing station by a roller keyed to the shaft 100 and co-operating with a roller 136 urged against it with a pressure adjustable by an eccentric, and rolled on to a take-up spool 160 driven through a belt 162. The shaft 100 is intermittently rotated through a one-way clutch by a rack 196 on a yoke 172 carried on the plunger 170 of the cylinder 168, the stroke of the plunger and the length of the feed strips being determined by an adjustable screw 199.
