1,129,210. Tricyclic amines. C. F. BOEHRINGER & SOEHNE G.m.b.H. 6 April, 1967 [9 April, 1966], No. 10391/68. Divided out of 1,129,209. Heading C2C. Novel compounds of Formula I, in which X is an oxygen or sulphur atom or an ethylene or thiomethylene group, R 1 is a hydrogen atom or an hydroxy group, each of R 3 and R 4 is a hydrogen atom or a C 1-3 alkyl radical, R 5 is a C 1-3 alkyl group and R 2 is a hydrogen atom or R 1 and R 2 together represent a further valency bond, with the proviso that when X is an oxygen atom and R 1 and R 2 together represent a further valency bond, then R 5 must be an alkyl radical, and their acid-addition salts, are prepared (a) by reducing a compound of Formula II to convert the amido group into an amino group and, if desired, when R 1 is an hydroxy group, dehydrating the compound before or after reduction of the amido group, and thereafter, if desired, reducing the double bond so formed and, if desired, when R 4 is an alkyl radical, subsequently introducing or splitting off this subsequent, or (b) by N-alkylating a compound of Formula III.
