Abstract

1,128,943. Coating. CELANESE COATINGS CO. 2 Feb., 1966 [2 Feb., 1965], No. 4562/66. Heading B2K. [Also in Division C3] A coating composition is prepared by reaction in an inert solvent of a polyisocyanate with a hydroxy-terminated alkyd resin which is the reaction product of a 'phthalic-type acid' (defined) and a dimer of a C 14-22 unsaturated aliphatic monocarboxylic acid, with one or more glycols or a mixture of polyols of which at least 75 wt% is glycol. (see Division C3). In the Examples a resin is prepared from a dimer acid, phthalic anhydride, propylene glycol and tolylene diisocyanate in aromatic hydrocarbon solution, and is mixed with hexamethylolmelamine and TiO 2 and used to roller-coat a primed steel coil.
