Abstract

1,128,292. Containers for beverages and the like; container closures. REXALL DRUG & CHEMICAL CO. 19 Oct., 1965 [28 Oct., 1964], No. 44292/65. Headings B8D and B8T. [Also in Division A4] A container of ovate transverse horizontal cross-section has a recess 18 in each of its side walls 15 enabling the user to hold the wider end wall of the container and use the recesses as finger grips when pouring out the liquid contents of the container through a spout 33 formed on a cover 13. The upper edge of the side and end walls are strengthened by means of a flange 20 supported by gusset plates 21, the flange having a vertical section 22 on each side to receive the shafts (26), Fig. 4 (not shown), of a pivoted handle 12 in cut-out portions (23). Under stress the handle, which may be of polyethylene, is held in the sections 22 by means of trunnions (27) which engage the container side walls, Fig. 9 (not shown). The lid 13 has a peripheral channel of inverted U- shape in cross-section which engages the upper edge of the container side and end walls. The recesses 18 diminish in depth towards the base of the container.
