Abstract

1,127,939. Alkyd resin paints. VSESOJUZNY NAUCHNO - ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT NOVYKH STROITELNYKA MATERIALOV. 24 Oct., 1966, No. 47574/66. Headings C3P and C3R. A paint comprises one or more pigments and fillers containing. at least 70% by weight of an amphoteric or basic nature, and a lacquer which consists of alkyd resin copolymerized with at least 40% by weight unsaturated hydrocarbons and dissolved in organic solvent. The alkyd resin may be modified with styrene or its homologues, diene hydrocarbons, olefines or mixtures of unsaturated hydrocarbons derived from tar obtained by pyrolysis of petroleum, hydrocarbon gases or combustible shales. In examples the pigments and fillers used are titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, magnesium oxide, painting black saturated with ammonia, polished marble, stone red (iron oxide), zinc chromate yellow, white zinc, yellow ochre, zinc carbonate, chrome green and calcium metasilicate. Solvents used are xylene, tetralin, white spirit and turpentine. Monomers used are styrene vinyl toluene, dicyclopentadiene and isoprene and unsaturated hydrocarbons obtained from pyrolytic tar. Also used are an enamel containing nitrocellulose, glyptal resin and plasticizers, pentaphthalic lacquer (which is a solution of pentaphthalic resin containing drying oil and perchlorovinyl lacquer in hydrocarbons) and perchlorovinyl lacquer obtained by dissolving in xylene polyvinyl chloride which has been subjected to additional chlorination. Driers are also present.
