Abstract
1,127,443. Automatic fire fighting apparatus. THRINGS ADVANCED DEVELOPMENTS, Ltd. 12 April, 1966 [13 Jan., 1965], No. 1461/65. Heading A5A. [Also in Division H4] In fire fighting apparatus a scanner rotatable about a vertical axis directs infra-red radiation from the fire onto a first detector, a second like detector is rotatable about the same vertical axis and is rocked about a horizontal axis to scan a vertical plane when the first detector has detected the radiation, and a fire extinguisher is aimed by the detectors and set into operation on radiation detection by the second detector. The aiming direction of the nozzle of the extinguisher may be arranged to allow for the trajectory of the fire quenching medium. In the embodiment a photo-cell is directed downwardly at 45‹ to the horizontal and is furnished with slits so that an output signal issues only when the vertical plane containing the slits is brought by scanning into a position to intersect the fire. A second photocell is rotatable about a horizontal axis and is furnished with horizontal slits. The extinguisher nozzle is connected by gearing to the means producing the scannings. A remote audible or visual alarm may be added. Steady radiation may be arranged not to influence the apparatus. Several spaced apparatuses may be installed to cover a large space.
