Abstract
1,125,849. Cleansing compositions; aerosol composition. GLAMORENE Inc. 3 May, 1966, No. 19541/66. Headings C4X and C5D. An aerosol composition comprises, in addition to a liquid propellant, a caustic alkali, a polyhydric alcohol having a boiling point of at least 185 C., and a nitrogen containing anionic surfactant. Suitable specified propellants are dichlorodifluoromethane, dichlorotetrafluoroethane, or a mixture of these, the propellants being insoluble in the aqueous concentrate, but forming an emulsion which when discharged from a pressurized container forms a stabilized foam. Examples of suitable nitrogen containing anionic surfactants are given, and ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, and dipropylene glycol are specified as suitable polyhydric alcohols. The caustic alkali may be sodium or potassium hydroxide. A cleansing composition comprises an aqueous solution of a caustic alkali, a polyhydric alcohol having a boiling point of at least 185 C. and a nitrogen containing anionic surfactant. Caustic alkalis specified are sodium and potassium hydroxide or mixtures thereof. High boiling polyhydric alcohols specified are ethylene glycol, dipropyleneglycol, and propylene glycol. Anionic surfactants may be selected from compounds having the formulµ: wherein in the first formula above n is an integer averaging 4, R represents the various hydrocarbon groups found in natural amino acids, R 1 COOH represents coconut fatty acids and M represents sodium, potassium, ammonium triethanolamine or other organic amines, in the second formula n is an integer averaging 20, R is as defined above and M is as hereinbefore defined, in the third formula R 2 represents the fatty substituent from lauric acid containing from 10-14 carbon atoms and M is as defined above. The composition may also contain water soluble thickeners such as sodium carboxymethyl cellulose or amylopectin, a foam stabilizer such as the triethanolamine salt of oleic acid. The composition may be used as a liquid preparation, or with the addition of a suitable propellant as an aerosol composition. Propellants specified include dichlorodifluoromethane, dichlorotetrafluoroethane, and mixtures thereof.
